• Password and Personal Information Protection

Other than anti-virus software and firewalls is there anything else I need to do to protect my computer?

Interestingly the most common means of gaining access to your computer or IT systems cannot be prevented by firewalls or anti-virus software. This is known as social engineering.

This may sound high-tech but actually it isn't some complicated computer program or a bunch of hackers busily hammering away at a keyboard. Social engineering is a way of getting people to release information like passwords, account names, computer names, etc. It's about getting the information that is required to hack (or crack) your computer systems, from an internal source (someone who already knows the useful information).

This is done in various ways but within a company could be as simple as someone calling the sales department, for example, and claiming to be a computer engineer who needs their password to check something. Naïve users often think they are being helpful by simply telling the caller the relevant information.

The bottom line is, make sure you or your staff only release this type of information to people that you know and trust.

3. What is a Trojan?

5. What is Spyware and how do I protect myself against it?
6. What is a firewall and how is it different to anti-virus software?
7.Other than anti-virus software and firewalls is there anything else I need to do to protect my computer?
8.What is VOIP and what can it do for me?
9.Does my computer warranty provide me with any protection?
